If you don't know who David Garrett is...he is phenomenal.
He is a classically trained violinist, who was raised in Europe. He first held a violin in his magical hands at the tender age of 4. By the young age of 14 he had won some of the most prestigious awards in Europe for his undeniable talent.
In 1999, at the height of his career in Berlin, David moved to New York to enroll in Julliard. There, he studied under Itzhak Perlmann (he is the reason I started playing viola), who helped David perfect his astounding technique. He also studied music theory and composition. His vision, talent, and heart can be seen and heard in his compositions and performances.
“You have to be a world-class violinist in order to record a good crossover CD.” -David Garrett
I am in complete agreement with that statement! I don't think 'just anybody' could successfully switch genres from classical to rock with such grace. His extreme talent shows through whenever he touches his instrument.
I fall asleep to his CD 'Rock Symphonies' every night. I have always wanted to play in a rock orchestra. I would love to play his style of music. To me it is calming. Whenever I hear it I am in awe and just want to hear more.
He will be performing two shows in Chicago in late January!! Sadly, there is no way I will afford one ticket, and go by myself (?!), let alone two tickets. So, for now...I will love listening to David Garrett on my iPod and watching his performances on YouTube.
